President Obama Signs Newborn Screening Act

The rare disease community received an early Christmas present from Washington last week when President Obama signed The Newborn Screening Saves Lives Reauthorization Act of 2014 (H.R.1281). 

The law is designed to eliminate critical delays in the newborn screening process. Babies are routinely screened for many disorders at birth. Unfortunately, there have been cases where the delays in getting those test results back have led to babies dying or being permanently disabled.
