FDA Approves At-Home Carrier Screening Test for Bloom Syndrome

A genetic test that can be used by potential parents to determine if they are carriers of Bloom syndrome has been approved the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This direct-to-consumer genetic test is the first of its kind and will be marketed by 23andMe.

More information is available in a Rare Disease Report article.  Additional information about Bloom Syndrome is available on the GDF website. GDF recommends that parents interested in genetic screening seek the guidance of a genetic counselor. To locate a genetic counselor in your area, visit www.KnowYourGenes.org.
