The Genetic Disease Foundation Mission
The Genetic Disease Foundation (GDF) is a non-profit 501c(3) organization established in 1997 by patients and families affected by genetic disorders. The Foundation’s mission is to support research, education and the prevention of genetic diseases.
The GDF supports
- Education programs for the public and physicians to increase their awareness about genetic diseases and the need for and availability of testing for many disorders.
- Research designed to improve genetic testing and to discover ways to treat, cure and ultimately prevent genetic disorders.
- Genetic counselors, health professionals with a master’s degree and experience in medical genetics and counseling.
The foundation is completely run by volunteers, which enables it to use all of its fundraising dollars to directly fight genetic diseases.
