Dr. Bassel is a member of the Genetic Disease Foundation (GDF) Board of Directors and its Medical Advisory Board.

He and his wife Jacqueline established the non-profit charitable foundation Zak’s Promise: Progress with Support, Inc., to help raise awareness and research funding for Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS), a genetic disorder that afflicts approximately 30,000 people in the U.S., including their young son, Zachary. The non-profit foundation recently partnered with the GDF and Mount Sinai School of Medicine to create a full-time research position to study Prader-Willi Syndrome and other genetic disorders caused by the 15th chromosome, which helps regulate appetite, metabolism, cognitive functions and behavioral patterns.

Dr. Bassel is Vice President of the Prader-Willi Alliance of New York. He serves on the Board of Directors of the Prader-Willi Syndrome Association and is co-chairman of the organization’s Scientific Advisory Committee.

Dr. Bassel has been a practicing chiropractor in Manhattan for 13 years. He specializes in treating spinal injuries, musculoskeletal conditions, and scoliosis and assists in active rehabilitation. He is a team physician with the American Basketball Association’s Harlem Strongdogs and the U.S. Basketball’s Brooklyn Kings. Dr. Bassel is an active member of the NYC volunteer community.
